About LocalRatesFinder
See the official national rate benchmarks, then judge every local quote against them.
LocalRatesFinder exists because the national benchmark is public information that is oddly hard to look up in one place. Freddie Mac and the Federal Reserve publish these numbers every week; we simply fetch them automatically, present them clearly, and pair them with calculators that run in your browser.
Rates vary by state and lender, and no free public dataset publishes verified rates for individual local lenders. Rather than invent that data, this site gives you the national benchmark and the method for judging any local quote against it.
Where the data comes from
Every rate is pulled automatically from the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) service of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The mortgage figures originate in the Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey; the prime rate, federal funds rate and Treasury yield come from the Federal Reserve H.15 release. Each figure on the site carries its own source label and publication date.
How this site makes money
Display advertising, and nothing else. We do not sell leads, take payment for placement, publish sponsored rankings, or receive commission from lenders. No lender can buy a better position here, because there are no positions to buy.
What we deliberately do not do
- Accept loan applications or forward your details to lenders
- Run credit checks, or offer prequalification or preapproval
- Collect personal financial information - the calculators run entirely in your browser
- Publish paid or affiliate-driven lender rankings
- Guarantee any rate to any borrower
These limits are deliberate. They keep the site an independent publisher rather than a broker, which is what allows it to stay genuinely neutral.
